Support someone in your community by being their walking buddy
Are you compassionate, a good communicator and empathetics to people from all walks of life?
As a Move Mate, you’ll be paired with a person who has requested support, encouragement and motivation to get out for a regular (usually weekly) walk.
You’ll meet the person at their front door and accompany them wherever they want to go.
It could be building confidence to go to a local shop or pharmacy, or it could be an opportunity for them to head to their local park for some fresh air and a friendly chat.
Walks usually take place weekly and the average walk time is 30 – 40 minutes, we advise you to allow an hour.

Most pairs will walk once per week and we usually advise both the volunteer and the beneficiary that the walk will be no more than one hour. You may decide in time that you both want to walk for longer, but most people who need a Move Mate…
You’ll complete two e-learning modules as part of your volunteer training. The Volunteer Essentials module will include an induction to Move the Masses, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Confidentiality and Data Protection.

We also organise regular training as part of our monthly volunteer meet-ups. You’ll have opportunities to complete Dementia Friends training, Visual Impairment Awareness, Sighted Guiding,
Yes! Being a Move Mate is a really flexible way to volunteer. We’ll ask about your availability as part of our welcome chat and we will only pair you with someone based on when and how often you’re available.
