Move Mates Stories: Andrew and Jane

Jane has been walking with *Andrew since early 2023. He has been building up his confidence walking with his dog, and walking further.

Jane had been looking for something to get her out and walking after losing her dog a few years ago

Jane has found it much harder to motivate herself to get out for a walk since losing her dog. When she spotted a Move Mates poster looking for volunteers it seemed like the perfect opportunity. She has since walked with two people who had requested a Move Mate walking buddy.

Andrew was referred through LCC Home Start, who pair volunteers with people needing support in their homes. Andrew has Parkinson’s and has had a couple of falls. He and Jane have been walking together since February. Jane really enjoys the reward of getting feedback from Andrew about how it makes a difference to how he is feeling. With Jane’s support they have been able to take a bus trip to one of Andrew’s favourite places. He pointed out places where he could remember and they stopped for a cup of tea before returning home on the bus.  For Andrew, this support means he can get out and about without being worried about falling.
