Hello,
On Friday 3rd November we are going to do something a little different – a litter pick walk!
This will be followed by a free drink and treat inside the new Merryoaks Community Hall in Neville’s Cross: https://www.merryoakscommunityhall.com/
Litter picking equipment is being provided by Durham County Council. We have a selection of longer and shorter litter pickers plus some bags. If you do have some litter picking equipment of your own please do bring it along as we will have limited supplies to go round.
Please come wearing appropriate clothing – as we’ll be walking by some roads then high visibility clothing is recommended as well as good sturdy shoes/trainers. We also recommend that you wear gloves (no litter should be picked via hand – only using the litter pickers provided – but just in case).
It is half term so children are very welcome to join us, but they must only use the litter picking equipment if they can do safely and must remain your full responsibility at all times. The community centre is situated in Merryoaks park so children will have somewhere to play at the end. There is standard play equipment (swings/slide etc) as well as a concrete mini football/basketball pitch, outdoor gym equipment and a large (muddy) field.
If anyone would like a cafe stop before meeting for the litter pick then St Cuthbert’s Cafe will be open 10am-2pm (the hospice is located next to the park): https://www.stcuthbertshospice.com/about/our-facilities/
There is a small free carpark at Merryoaks Community Hall and free parking on the residential street close by and the number 7 and X21 buses run close by. ***Please note*** The Go North East bus services are on indefinite strike so please double check before travelling by bus!
