Move Mates Stories: Bunty and Daniel

Bunty was referred to Move Mates through Age UK, she has been walking with Daniel since November

Bunty has appreciated having a walk scheduled that she 'couldn't wriggle out of'

Bunty was referred to Move Mates through Age UK’s Personalised Integarated Care programme. A Personal Support Navigator worked with her, visiting her and discussing her needs. This then led to a referral to Move Mates in Leeds. Her confidence going out and walking had faltered with Parkinson’s. Walking with Daniel meant that she had no worries about falling. Getting out and walking led to an immediate improvement in Bunty’s mood too.

Bunty found having company that she could talk to about normal things really distracted her from the walking. They found a shared love of football and many other interesting topics to discuss on their walks together. A walk and a ‘good chat’ has made a world of difference to Bunty over the past few months.

We are looking for more volunteers in Leeds, in Garforth, LS9 and LS16. If you can help please get in touch via the button at the bottom of the page.

“It’s nice to have someone to walk with regularly that you get on with – you don’t notice the walking!

“Bunty was very excited about the England game. We had a photo by her flags and she enjoyed talking about all the different teams and games she’d seen.
