A natural expansion of our successful Move Mates project in York
The district of Selby (including Selby, Tadcaster, Sherburn-in-Elmet and the villages in between) and the ward of Pocklington (including Pocklington, Stamford Bridge and Fangfoss) are the two new areas we will be branching into with our brilliant project to help more people get out of their homes and get moving.
Move Mates supports people to get walking through being paired for a regular one-to-one walk with one of our friendly volunteers; we aim to build people’s confidence, help them to reach their walking goals and support people to become more independent whilst connecting them with their local community.
In these two new areas, our strategy is to trial a volunteer-led approach. Our first step will be to find three to five passionate volunteers in each area who will be the ambassadors for Move Mates. They will promote Move Mates locally, recruit new volunteers and coordinate paired walking activities.
This vital volunteer role is all about supporting your local Move Mates project. It’s perfect for people who love getting involved in all things community and who are passionate about volunteering and the benefits of getting outdoors for some fresh air and exercise. The role is very flexible, with a time commitment of around 5 -10 hours per week.
These volunteers will receive full training and ongoing support, ready to launch Move Mates projects in their areas early in 2023.
