Lizzy’s Cycling Challenge

Many thanks to Lizzy for her awesome fundraising!

Tuesday 8th November saw Lizzy ride over 70km for her birthday challenge

For Lizzy’s special birthday later this year, she decided she didn’t want cards or gifts. Instead she took on the challenge of cycling a stupendous 70km. She asked people to support her in raising funds for Move Mates and Everybody’s Cycling.

Motivated by her observation that the past two and a half years have left some people very isolated and have increased the incidence of depression, she decided to support two local charities who make a difference. Lizzy had not previously been much of a cyclist but she joined a ‘Sofa to 50k’ training plan and braved the cycle routes around York in all weathers to train. This meant early starts and fitting in the training around her busy life and work commitments.

The day of the ride started as a beautiful day for it with no rain forecast. However, after lunch the heavens opened and Lizzy and Pam, who was supporting her on the day, were caught in a torrential downpour with thunder and lightning. They kept smiling throughout and completed the ride, over 70km in the end. Lizzy made her donation of £380 to Move Mates at the beginning of December. A huge thank you to Lizzy for enabling us to help make going for a walk a reality for more people.

“Brilliant effort Lizzy! Well done and thank you so much for your fundraising efforts.

If you fancy taking on a challenge, why not get involved? Our next fundraising event is the 12ks of Christmas

We’d love you to get involved, be it running, walking, rowing, swimming, or any other form of movement! You might have a target of 1k or 78k or anything in between. It’s a virtual challenge, so you can take part wherever in the country you are. Why not gather with friends and complete it together?
